It had been an exhausting hour to say the least. Her first week on the job, first time fully making pizzas and to just be rushed and pushed so hard, so fast didn’t seem fair. The girl sighed and sat down for her thirty minute break. She’d accepted the job because she wanted to help, after all she’d spent so much time there anyways, she practically had her own booth there! Fran had hoped to see more of her co workers, who she’d just recently joined in working, but they always seemed to be running off and doing other things.
She knew that Theo usually ran deliveries, and occasionally Casey did as well, but she’d thought for sure that Lily would stay and help her most times. She may have not been as close to the other girl as she’d liked, but Fran could feel some sort of connection between them. Then again maybe it was nothing, maybe she’d just been reading one too many books on interpersonal connections between co workers and gestures and glances. But Lily always seemed so nice to her, always asking how she was and wanting to give her a hand with the prep work. Lily always seemed so open and cheerful, willing to help out in anyway. No sooner was Fran lost in her thoughts when Lily sat next to her, startling the girl with her arrival.
“That was a crazy hour wasn’t it?” Lily asked, just as exhausted as Fran was, quite literally tired from making pizza.
“Lily! Oh Hi ..yeah, no that was insane, I’ve never experienced the rush from that side before,” she stated, recalling the mass of customers pouring in within the short amount of time.
“We were pretty lucky that Theo and RJ were there to help,” Lily remarked, taking a moment to adjust her hair. Fran snuck a quick glance, admiring Lily’s graceful ways both in and out of the kitchen. She remembered the three of them, her, Casey and Theo came from some kung fu school, which was evident in the way that Theo worked, but Lily seemed to have this cat like grace about her. Fran didn’t notice that she’d been spacing out again until Lily politely interrupted her.
“Fran? Are you okay there? You seemed kind of lost for a minute” she asked, wondering if her friend was okay.
“Oh, I’m ..I’m fine I just was thinking about everything that’s been happening lately with you guys working here and then my working here. I think that it’s really great of RJ to give us all jobs here, not that I’d have said no anyways because I seriously love the food here, and it’s really really good that everyone else does too. I’ve been coming here for a while you know? It’s great to be able to help out for a change instead of just sitting,” she remarked, rambling her way through whatever was flowing from her mind outward.
"Yeah I understand,” Lily replied with a smile, patiently waiting for her friend to process all the errant thoughts in her head.
“Sometimes, like today it just gets really crazy you know?” Fran remarked, as she noticed Lily move a little closer towards her. “And it's really difficult trying to get all the orders in and everything served when you guys keep disappearing on me so that it's just me and RJ and sometimes RJ disappears too so I'm doing everything by myself and-” she was quickly cut off by the abrupt sensation of warm slender arms being wrapped around her.
“Lily?” she asked, her body tensed up lightly and her glasses threatening to fall off of her face.
“Hmm?” her curly haired co worker asked as she held her tight.
“Not that I’m complaining, but Uhm...Why are you hugging me like this?”
Fran asked, her eyes bulging as she realized how she’d started what she said.
“Well, I know how you can get kind of frazzled and I thought you could use a cuddle,” she stated, looking into her friends eyes through her thick frames.
“Oh…Uhm…I ah...Thank you,” she replied softly, unsure of how to show her thanks to her friend.
“I’m sorry it seems like we leave you with a lot of stuff, but we ah... We have other job’s that sometimes cut into what we do here,” the yellow ranger remarked, wishing she could just tell her friend what was going on when they left, “Can I make it up to you with buying you lunch?” Lily asked as she released the girl who readjusted her shirt and glasses.
“That sounds great,” Fran stated as she stood up, a little more at ease with her day and eagerly looking forward to whatever Lily had planned
