Original fic: Coming Home by
queenriley
Fandom: Power Rangers, post Once a Ranger
Pairing: Rocky/Adam
Summary: In the aftermath of a fight, Rocky does some thinking.
Rating: G
Rocky looked around the living room, dust cloth in hand, and nodded to himself in satisfaction. He was done here, at least for the night. There was more to do but it could wait until morning, no point starting anything else this late. He'd pretty much cleared his head anyway, with all the cleaning he'd done over the past few days and Adam probably wouldn't even recognise the place by the time he got back.
If he came back.
Rubbing the back of his neck tiredly, Rocky shook his head. No, Adam would be back eventually, when he was done saving the world again, and when he came back Rocky owed him a big apology. Just because he hadn't resolved his issues with not being a ranger anymore like he'd thought he had wasn't an excuse to go off at Adam. Well, if nothing else the whole mess had forced him to take a good hard look at himself and admit that he hadn't dealt with not being a ranger as well as he'd thought he'd had. Adam had deserved his support in this and he hadn't been able to give it. What kind of a jerk did that make him?
Adam helping out the Space Rangers, Tommy's Red Ranger mission that he'd been left out of, Adam being chosen to lead this new team... He could admit now that it had hurt, that he'd been jealous of Adam's chance to take up the Power again, but those were his issues, going way back to high school and Zordon and it was past time he dealt with those issues and moved on. Okay, so maybe he wasn't a ranger anymore, that didn't mean his life wasn't important or that he - they - couldn't still make a difference, because they could. Maybe it wasn't saving the world with zords and superpowers, but the things he and Adam did now still played a part, still made a difference.
Taking a last look around, looking for any spots he'd missed, Rocky froze momentarily at the sound of the front door opening. This was a decent neighbourhood and he'd been fairly comfortable with only locking the door when he turned in for the night and not before. He wondered now if that had been a mistake. Still, if this was someone breaking in they were about to get a nasty shock because Rocky wasn't about to roll over and let whoever this was help themselves to his or Adam's things.
Rounding the corner, fully intent on kicking the intruder out, Rocky came to an abrupt standstill when he realised it was Adam standing in the doorway. His bag was still slung over his shoulder and he looked... worried. Like he wasn't sure what reaction he was going to get.
"I, uh, wasn't sure you'd still be here," Adam said quietly, his bag dropping out of his hands and down to the floor. "You were so angry when I left… I was worried."
All of the worrying over whether or not Adam would even come back and Adam had been worried about him leaving? There was irony for you. Rocky grinned and saw Adam relax. They still had a lot to talk about - he had an apology to make, for one thing - but it looked like things were going to work out, after all.
