Love Song
Ashley sighed as she walked into her apartment. She tossed her purse on the side table and sank down against the door. She should have gone back to KO-35 with Andros and Zhane. But she knew that was never really an option. Andros had offered, but what would she do there? Andros was with Zhane, and since Karone had gone off to find herself, she didn't know anyone on KO-35.
At least here she had her family. And she had TJ and Carlos, what little she got to see of them. Cassie had left even before Andros and Zhane to search for the Phantom Ranger. She heard from her once in a while, enough to know that she was ok, but she barely got to talk to her anymore.
She had tried to get in touch with her old friends, most of which she had lost touch with when she had become a Power Ranger. Everyone had been very understanding, and more than willing to be friends again. In fact, everyone she had ever met was suddenly striving to be her best friend.
Ashley figured she should probably get up off the floor at some point. She pulled off her high heels before standing up, leaving them abandoned by the door. And dating was impossible. She stumbled in the dimly lit room to turn on the lamp. There was a light switch by the door, but the main light was too bright for today.
She made her way to the kitchen and opened the cupboard where she pulled out her favourite cookies. She took a bite out of one, and looked in the fridge. She saw the bottle of red wine from the other night, and sighed picking it up. She didn't drink a lot, really. She had bought this bottle when her parents had come over for dinner a couple nights ago, and she never had more than one glass at a time.
She poured herself a glass and took a bite of another cookie. She had honestly believed that tonight would be different. Ashley scoffed, it was. Tonight was by far the worst date she had ever been on. And that included the time she had gone out with George.
She grabbed the cookies and her glass and walked over to the couch, flopping herself down onto it. She was just about to turn on the tv when a knock came at the door.
Ashley scrunched her eyebrows and looked up at the clock, it was after 11 already. Wearily, she walked over to the door, if this was another stalker-
"Ash?" Cassie's voice came from the other side of the door.
Ashley blinked in surprise and opened the door, "Cassie?
Cassie let out a sigh of relief. She dropped the bags she was holding and flung her arms around Ashley's neck. Ashley returned the hug gratefully, "What's going on? How are you back?"
"Ugh, it's a long story," Cassie sighed, finally breaking the hug.
"Did you just get here?" Ashley asked, noticing the bags.
"Yeah, I was actually hoping I could crash with you tonight?" Cassie asked hopefully.
"Of course! Come on in," Ashley picked up one of her bags, bringing it in. She kicked her shoes out of the way as she did.
"You weren't going out, where you?"
"Oh no, I just got home."
"Rough night?" Cassie asked, noticing the cookies and wine glass.
Ashley scoffed, "You could say that." Ashley got another glass for Cassie, and pulled a bag of marshmallows out of the pantry. "So what happened? Did you find Phantom?"
"No," Cassie sighed, taking the glass. "I found people who'd seen him. But-" she shook her head.
"I'm sorry Cass."
"He could find me if he wanted to. It's no big mystery how to get in touch with me," she muttered, eating a cookie.
"I'm sorry Cassie."
She shook her head, "It's ok. I'm done looking for him. And I'm done thinking about him!" she declared. "I want to hear about you, what happened tonight?"
"Ugh! Worst date ever," Ashley said. She gave a small smile to show that she was ok.
"I'm sorry," Cassie told her, resting her head on her shoulder. They talked for a while, then Ashley put on a movie that they fell asleep watching.

Cassie woke up feeling warm and safe, nestled comfortably in Ashley's arms. "Good morning," Ashley said when she stirred.
"Mmh, morning," Cassie smiled up at her. It became clear very quickly that neither of them where in a hurry to move. But eventually Cassie's stomach made it's intentions to loud to ignore.
"Are you hungry?" Ashley asked, apparently guessing her thoughts. Or maybe the other girl just wanted something in her stomach as much as she did.
Cassie nodded. "I could use a shower actually," she said as they struggled to sit up. She had had a long trip back and she was anxious to get the travel off of her.
"Sure. The bathroom's right through there," Ashley told her. "How about if you go shower, and I'll make us some breakfast?"
"You wouldn't mind?" Cassie asked.
"Of course not! It's the least I can do for my best friend!"
Cassie smiled, "Thanks Ash. You're the best."
***
"Can I tell you something?" Cassie asked, taking a bite of her waffle. They where sitting at the table having breakfast. Cassie had borrowed a bathrobe of Ashley's. She could really use a Laundromat.
"Of course."
"When I was out there, searching for him," Cassie hesitated, "I was thinking of you."
Ashley didn't respond immediately. Cassie kept staring at her waffles, waiting for her to say something. The silence seemed to go on forever. Maybe she shouldn't have said anything. Finally she couldn't take it anymore. She swallowed and looked up at the other girl.
Ashley was staring back at her. But before Cassie had a chance to say anything, Ashley stood up, walked around the table, and kissed her. Not a small kiss on the cheek between friends, not a soft gentle kiss of a new relationship, but a long, deep, passionate kiss. A kiss between two people who had known each other for a long time, two people who knew everything there was to know about each other, two people who loved each other.
Cassie looked up when Ashley finally pulled away. Cassie blinked up at her. For a moment, they just stared at each other. Then Cassie looked down, sheepishly. She knew she was blushing. "I-I wrote you something," she said.
"Yeah?" Ashley asked.
Cassie looked up at her, then stood up, heading over to her bag. She pulled out a notebook, and flipped through it. "Here," she said, folding the cover open to a page with the song lyrics.
Ashley took it, reading the lyrics. "You wrote this... for me?"
Cassie nodded.
"It's beautiful. 'Just you and me,'" Ashley read out loud on of the last lines.
"And together we'll be, for eternity In love," Cassie finished.

Ha, that's totally how I think things would go if she hung around on Earth, too--that's one of the reasons I like to have her on KO-35. They didn't seem as... hm, celebrity obsessed. Also because living on some other planet sounds totally cool, and I want good things for my favorite characters, so ALIEN PLANET IT IS.
I love how well they know each other here and how... undramatic it is, with them just being like "yeah, why not do this?". Except without even needing to say it.

Date: 2012-10-26 06:17 am (UTC)I always move anyone to KO-35 that I can. Partially because they should all be together and Andros has been away from home long enough, and partially, because I want to move to KO-35 so why wouldn't I spend all the time writing it that I can?
